Broken Life - A Fight for Forever - Book 1
By Vangie Williams
ISBN: 978-0-615-29273-1

Follow the beautiful and intelligent Marguerite along on a treacherous but love-filled adventure across 1800’s America. Upon reaching the shore of America, this young and innocent woman of both French and African blood falls madly in love with wealthy landowner, Thomas Burnett. But will an African curse that followed her maternal ancestors for 12 generations – a curse that is too horrible to imagine and one that no one wants to believe – destroy their dreams? This novel presents an historical and steamy tale of love, faith and hope amid unconceivable odds in a land fraught with bigotry and hate.

Book Reviews

Skillfully crafted by author Vangie Williams, Broken Life doubles as a steamy tale of passionate romance and an eye-opening account of our nation’s turbulent beginnings. More than just a love story, though, Williams’ true life tale is a veritable cornucopia of historical figures, events, and locales, taking the reader on an insightful journey through the formative years of our nation’s storied history.

Bolstered by vivid characters and compelling plotlines, Broken Life is a heartrending account of the often difficult extremes to which one must go for real, lasting love. A powerful, highly recommended read.  -- Renee Washburn (Reviewer for APEX Reviews) 4.5 stars (out of 5)

The relationship between Thomas and Marguerite is fascinating and how they adjust to each other while meeting the support characters is interesting.  The book is very detailed and complicated and readers need to pay strict attention. It is these details though that gives the book depth. As the book returns to Bethel and modern times, the ending is interesting and sets up for book two in the Broken Life-Fight for Forever series. I am expecting great things from Ms Williams. -- Anya (Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More) 4 Cups (out of 5)

"Author Vangie Williams has developed her characters well and we quickly come to care for them as if they, indeed, were family. The plot is also well thought out and the story is written with great care when dealing with delicate subjects. Overall, this book is a ...great read, especially if you are interested in understanding life and how people thought during America’s early days. And as noted in the title, this book is called ‘Book 1,’ so it can be assumed that the story of this unrelenting curse is not yet over." -- Martha Jett (writer and editor)

Her book reads like a diary you may have had as a young girl, but this one is filled with beautiful, old-fashioned romance from a day gone by, when ladies wore long breathtaking gowns and never went out without a chaperone. Just like the days of Scarlett O'Hara. Then, Ms. Williams adds intrigue to these young ladies, telling of their slave ancestors, hidden secrets of a wooden box, mixed-marriages, crossing cultural lines, vivid dreams, a young lady’s travels leading to meeting the love of her life, to become her husband. Add to this an unrelenting curse rooted in the motherland...unknown to our heroine.... So fascinating, exciting, creative, and just wonderful! -- Irene Brodsky (Published Poet, Author - Author of Poetry Unplugged (Outskirts Press))
